How to Install a Garage Door Opener

Installing a garage door opener should not be done by a beginner do it yourselfer, if you are experienced then you will be able to manage the job quite easily.

In most cases, the most common garage door opener is the motor mounted over the area in which you park your car. When you purchase the garage door opener, you will also receive all kinds of accessories such as
  • remote controls
  • keyless entry pads
  • keyed switches
  • directions on installing the garage door opener
Let’s start!

The opener needs to fit into a torque tube spring system If the tube has already been installed you will have to remove it and then place the drive motor in the tube

Once you have the drive motor in the tube:
  • put the torque tube back in place
  • end bracket in place
  • cable drum in place
Now using lag screws fasten the mounting bracket to the wall above the garage door.
  • Using an S hook, attach the disconnect cable to the motor.
  • Thread it through the wall bracket
  • Thread it through the handle
  • Only pull it through to remove the slack, then secure it to the wall about 6 feet above the floor
Now you will have to clamp locking pliers on both sidetracks of the door to keep the garage door from lifting.
  • Set the emergency disconnect in the manual position
  • Raise the door until it is all the way open
  • Lower the door until it is closed all the way
  • Attach the stop bracket to the motor
  • Plug the female end of the power cord into the garage door opener
  • Mount the remote control
  • Install the battery
  • Replace the touch pad
  • Test the garage door opener
Before you ever begin installing your new garage door opener, be sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions as these instructions are very brief just to give you an idea.
